OEM vs Aftermarket Appliance Parts: How to Choose
OEM parts are made by or for the original appliance brand. Aftermarket compatible parts are made by another manufacturer to replace or fit selected OEM part numbers and appliance models.
When OEM matters
If you are seeking a repair under an appliance manufacturer’s warranty, check that appliance’s warranty documents and contact the manufacturer before buying a part. Whirlpool’s replacement-part guidance, for example, directs owners with a Whirlpool manufacturer-warranty request to contact Whirlpool. An OEM label by itself does not establish compatibility with every model.
When compatible parts can make sense
For an aftermarket replacement, check who makes the part, which OEM numbers it references, and which full appliance models are listed. Compare the stated specifications and package contents where available. A reference to an appliance brand does not mean that brand manufactured or endorsed the replacement. Use our part-fit checklist and model-number guide before ordering.
HPUY compatibility policy
Brand names and model numbers on HPUY product pages are used only to identify compatibility. HPUY compatible replacement parts are not affiliated with or endorsed by appliance brands unless the product page clearly states otherwise.
Before installation
Resolve missing or conflicting product details with HPUY support before ordering. For installation or service, use the appliance manufacturer’s instructions and service resources for your exact model.
